What is MAT Cut-off?

The MAT cutoff is the minimum score or percentile that a candidate must secure to be eligible for admission into MBA/PGDM programs offered by participating institutes. Each institute decides its own cut-off based on its admission policy.

Types of Cutoff
  • There are two types of cut-offs:

    • Overall Cutoff: The total composite score or percentile required.

    • Sectional Cutoff: Minimum required marks in individual sections (e.g., Language Comprehension, Mathematical Skills, etc.), although most MAT-accepting colleges don’t emphasize sectional cut-offs.

  • Focus on accuracy and time management.

  • Solve previous year papers and take mock tests.

  • Strengthen weak areas through regular practice.

  • Work on speed in quantitative & data analysis.

  • Improve reading comprehension and reasoning skills.

Factors Affecting Cutoff
  • Several key factors influence the MAT cut-off for any given year:

    • Number of candidates appearing in the exam.

    • Difficulty level of the exam.

    • Total number of seats available in each institute.

    • Past year cut-off trends.

    • Reputation/ranking of the B-school.

    • Reservation policies (if applicable).

Next Steps After Cutoff
  • After meeting the cut-off, the admission process usually includes:

    • Shortlisting for Group Discussion (GD), Personal Interview (PI), or Written Ability Test (WAT)

    • Final selection based on composite performance – MAT score + GD/PI + academic record + work experience (if applicable)
